Includes contents list, chronology of Hemans’ life and works, appendix with general criticisms on misc poems, and a general index. Text is printed in double column throughout.

Felicia Dorothea Hemans was an English poet who owed the immense popularity of her poems to a talent for treating romantic themes (nature, the picturesque, childhood innocence, travels abroad, liberty, and the heroic) with an easy and engaging fluency. This copy is from the library of English politician, William Farrer Ecroyd (1827-1915), with his ownership name in black ink to first blank. This is a thick heavy volume printed by William Blackwell & Sons, London and Edinburgh.

Condition: Bound in full Moroccan red leather with bright gilt floral border design to both boards. There’s elaborate gilt design and gilt lettering to spine, raised bands, gilt turn ins, all gilt fore edge, and marbled endpapers. Covers are slightly soiled, mild foxing to preliminary pages, former owners name inscribed to first blank page, and pencil inscription noting the fore-edge painting is the Tower of London. Bumping to corners and mild crack to hinge. This is a VERY GOOD nice, clean, tight leather bound copy.
