Antique complete set of the Manydown Edition of Jane Austen novels. The Manydown Edition was an American edition of Austen’s collection with different illustrations than were published in the British versions. The American editions were published under place names relating to Miss. Austen’s life — Chawton, Winchester, Manydown. If you’re a hardcore obsessed fan as I am, you may know that she once accepted a proposal from Harris Bigg-Wither, who was the heir to Manydown Park. She turned him down the next day. Can you imagine if she had accepted?! Jane Bigg-Wither - NO!
This is set 78 of 500. No publishing date. Based on the publisher and illustrator, circa 1906. The Manydown edition is the rarest American edition published with only 500 sets. Gilded top fore edge and rough cut sides and bottom, marbled endpapers, and colored illustrations throughout.
Measures 9 x 6 x 1.5
Publisher - Society of English & French Literature, New York
Editor - Reginald Brimley Johnson

Condition: VERY GOOD/FINE - no foxing and very minor discoloration to the ends of some outside pages. I found a couple of thumb prints but otherwise no marks internally. Black leather spines are faded from sun but gilding is bright and the bindings are all tight and almost perfect. There is wear to the top and bottom spines and corners. A very readable set!
